Dingemans SA, et al. - Experts gauged the impact of a footbath in alcohol prior to preoperative disinfection on bacterial flora of the foot and ankle. The amount of bacteria under the nailfold and in the first webspace was significantly reduced by a footbath in alcohol prior to regular preoperative skin antisepsis. After a footbath in alcohol lower number of cultures with heavy growth were seen. They noted the cultures of 38 different microorganisms.
