Prenatal biochemical screening and long term risk of maternal cardiovascular disease: Population based cohort study
BMJ Jul 17, 2018
Ray JG, et al. - How abnormal prenatal biochemical screening results impacts risk of premature cardiovascular disease following pregnancy was examined in this population based cohort study. Participants in the study were women aged 12-55 years with no pre-existing cardiovascular disease who had prenatal screening between 1993 and 2011. Particularly for dimeric inhibin-A, women with abnormal prenatal biochemical screening results were found to have a modestly higher risk of a premature cardiovascular disease composite outcome. The findings suggested that a huge amount of data now exists that could be applied to better estimate a woman’s long-term risk of cardiovascular disease.
