Predictors of eating-related psychopathology in transgender and gender nonbinary individuals
Eating Behaviours May 13, 2021
Uniacke B, Glasofer D, Devlin M, et al. - Researchers investigated the link of identity development as well as minority stress with the presence of disordered eating behaviors and cognitions among transgender and gender nonbinary people, as well as improvement at one-year follow-up. They obtained relevant data from a multi-site, longitudinal analysis of transgender and gender nonbinary persons (n = 287). Findings demonstrated the presence of an association of gender identity development as well as of internalized transphobia with eating-related psychopathology among transgender and gender nonbinary people. Mental health providers are advised to consider evaluating all transgender and gender nonbinary persons for eating-related psychopathology as well as unique risk factors related to disordered eating, including low transgender congruence and internalized transphobia.
