Esteban C, et al. - This prospective, observational, multicentre study was performed to detect factors related to mortality 1 year after hospitalization for an exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, given these factors could help determine interventions to reduce mortality. The factors that were found to be associated with the 1-year mortality following the index hospitalization for an exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease included clinical characteristics of the patient and of the index event, previous events of similar severity, and characteristics of the hospital where the patient was treated.
