Prediction and prevention of sudden death in young patients (< 20 years) with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
The American Journal of Cardiology Jul 15, 2020
Rowin EJ, Sridharan A, Madias C, et al. - This inquiry was performed among young hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HC) patients to evaluate the accuracy of sudden death (SD) prediction as well as prevention with prophylactic implantable cardioverter-defibrillators in this group of patients. Overall 146 HC patients < 20 years of age participated. Experts depended on ≥ 1 established individual risk markers regarded as major within each participant's clinical profile, relied on an enhanced American College of Cardiology /American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) guidelines algorithm. Based on the findings, the high reliability of an enhanced ACC/AHA risk stratification strategy, based on established individual risk markers, was concluded for the prospective prediction of SD events in children as well as adolescents suffering from HC and also for preventing arrhythmia-based catastrophes in this susceptible high risk group.
