Postpartum depression screening and pelvic floor symptoms among women referred to a specialty postpartum perineal clinic
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Dec 15, 2017
Swenson CW, et al. - In a specialty postpartum perineal clinic, the prevalence of a positive postpartum depression screen was determined, and risk factors for postpartum depression in this population were explored. In women referred to a specialty perineal clinic, pelvic floor symptoms that were independently associated with a positive postpartum depression screen were urinary incontinence during and after pregnancy and referral for pain. Therefore, researchers recommended considering depression screening in women presenting with perinatal urinary incontinence and persistent postpartum pain, as these women might be at increased risk of developing postpartum depression.
