Posterior tilt in nondisplaced femoral neck fractures increases the risk of reoperations after osteosynthesis. A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Injury Sep 19, 2020
Nielsen LL, Smidt NS, Erichsen JL, et al. - A systematic review was conducted to evaluate the impact of posterior tilt on reoperations, patient-reported outcome measures, and functional outcome following osteosynthesis of undisplaced FNFs (uFNF). Researchers developed a search string with the aid of a scientific librarian and the search was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, and Embase. The meta-analyses were conducted in STATA IC 16 applying Risk Ratio as the primary effect estimate. A total of studies including a sum of 3,131 patients were included in the study. In uFNF, a posterior tilt ≥ 20° leads to a higher risk of reoperations. The outcomes imply that we should include the measurement of posterior tilt in national guidelines, even though the studies were of poor quality.
