Post-surgical outcomes of patients with chronic kidney disease and end stage renal disease undergoing radical prostatectomy: 10-year results from the US National Inpatient Sample
BMC Nephrology Jul 29, 2019
Ning C, et al. - In this population-based, retrospective study, researchers assessed the clinical features and postsurgical results of patients with or without chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end stage renal disease undergoing radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer. They used patient data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample and found that the risk of postoperative complications, postoperative acute kidney injury and urinary complications was significantly greater and hospital stays were longer among prostate cancer patients with underlying CKD vs those without CKD. For these patients, significantly shortened hospital stays and attenuated complications were documented in relation to robot-assisted radical prostatectomy use.
