Placebo response in neuropathic pain after spinal cord injury: A meta-analysis of individual participant data
Journal of Pain Research May 09, 2018
Jutzeler CR, et al. - In this meta-analysis, researchers aimed to classify subject-level factors that contribute to placebo variability in patients with neuropathic pain due to spinal cord injury (SCI). Male subjects and those with higher baseline pain were associated with larger placebo responses, while injury or pain characteristics had no significant impact. In the placebo arm of SCI central neuropathic pain randomized controlled clinical trials, the findings showed the importance of sex and baseline pain intensity on changes in pain ratings, while placebo responses occurred independent of injury characteristics.
