Physician satisfaction with anti-inflammatory topical medications for the treatment of dry eye disease
Clinical Ophthalmology Mar 29, 2020
White DE, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to evaluate physician satisfaction with cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion 0.05% (CYC) and lifitegrast 5% ophthalmic solution (LIF) for the treatment of dry eye disease (DED), a complex, chronic, and progressive condition of the ocular surface. For this survey-based study, 21 physicians doctors took part, providing responses on behalf of 210 patients. The most frequently reported side effects were burning sensation and dysgeusia. The main switching drivers were onset of action and effectiveness after onset. Physicians considered a difference in DED management, with anti-inflammatory topical agents currently available. While there was a high degree of satisfaction with CYC and LIF, few doctors found these drugs to be successful in managing symptoms or improving QoL.
