Nephrology Aug 04, 2021
Okubo R, Kondo M, Tsunoda R, et al. - Some disability in ADLs/instrumental activities of daily living was experienced by a minority, but sizeable proportion of advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients treated by nephrologists in Japan. Thus, physical functioning and physical activity should be routinely assessed in this population.
Patients with non-dialysis-CKD stage G3b-5 (n = 1,628) were analyzed.
Good physical functioning was present in 84.3%, and 40% of the patients were inactive.
Older age, higher CKD stage, comorbid conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, and cancer (non-skin) were more commonly associated with poor physical functioning.
Patients with older age and higher CKD stage more commonly experienced physical inactivity.
