Physical activity levels after hip and knee joint replacement surgery: An observational study
Clinical Rheumatology Oct 06, 2018
Hawke LJ, et al. - Researchers assessed whether self-reported physical activity levels following hip or knee joint replacement were influenced by exercise delivered in a group setting in the early stage of outpatient rehabilitation in this observational study. Data indicated that all performance-based measures significantly improved at program discharge, and fast-paced walking and 6 Minute Walk Test measures continued to improve at 6-week follow-up. The authors suggested that group dynamics present in an outpatient rehabilitation exercise program may result in an increase in physical activity levels during participants but not following group cessation. Overall, they observed an improvement in all functional measures at group discharge.
