Physical activity and emotional intelligence among undergraduate students: A correlational study
BMC Public Health Sep 15, 2019
Acebes-Sánchez J, et al. - Among undergraduate students from Madrid (Spain) (n = 2,960, age = 21.34 ± 4.34 years), researchers investigated the possible links between physical activity (PA) and emotional intelligence (EI) dimensions: emotional attention, clarity, and repair. They also assessed gender differences in PA domains and EI dimensions. The participants fulfilled the Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS-24) and Global Physical Activity Questionnaire. To compare EI and PA levels according to gender, they used a MANOVA. A better score on EI, especially in emotional attention and emotional repair, was exhibited by undergraduate students with higher levels of leisure-time PA (LTPA). However, these links, as well as the predictive power of LTPA concerning emotional attention and emotional repair, were weak. Higher emotional clarity and emotional repair, as well as more engagement in LTPA and occupational PA, were seen among men vs women. However, higher emotional attention was observed in women.
