Pharmacological and neurosurgical interventions for managing dystonia in cerebral palsy: A systematic review
Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology Feb 23, 2018
Fehlings D, et al. - The intention of the authors was to appraise the evidence regarding pharmacological/neurosurgical interventions for the management of dystonia in subjects with cerebral palsy (CP) to inform a care pathway. Intrathecal baclofen (ITB) and deep brain stimulation (DBS) exhibited the potential of being effective for dystonia reduction. On the other hand, trihexyphenidyl appeared to be possibly ineffective. Insufficient evidence was brought to light for pharmacological and neurosurgical interventions to improve motor function, decrease pain, and ease caregiving. It was determined that maximum pharmacological and neurosurgical management of dystonia in CP was based on clinical expert opinion.
