Personality traits and cognitive function in old-adults with type-2 diabetes
Aging and Mental Health Dec 08, 2018
Weinstein G, et al. - In this work, the relationship of personality traits and cognitive performance in individuals with Type-2 Diabetes (T2D) was examined. Further, the possible mediators were explored. For these purposes, researchers analyzed 377 dementia-free subjects with T2D participating in the Israel Diabetes and Cognitive Decline study who underwent assessment of cognition and personality (mean age 72 ± 4y; 42% females). Outcomes revealed a possible existence of a significant role of personality in cognitive health among elderly subjects with T2D. High neuroticism levels were noted to be associated with poorer performance overall and with poorer episodic memory, attention/working memory, and semantic categorization after adjustment for multiple covariates. Further, they observed that the high scores on openness to experience were correlated with better global cognition, executive functions and semantic categorization.
