Peritoneal dialysis treatment in small children with acute kidney injury: Experience in northwest China
Blood Purification Aug 01, 2019
Li H, Yang S, Jin L, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers examined pediatric patients from northwest China who received peritoneal dialysis (PD) as renal replacement therapy for acute kidney injury (AKI), to assess the efficacy and the result of PD in these patients. PD was received by 24 children (62.5% male, mean age 22.4 ± 18.7 months) for a mean duration of 11.3 ± 7.8 days (2–39 days). Findings revealed the high efficacy of PD treatment in reducing toxins, improving fluid overload, and correcting electrolyte disturbances. PD was suggested to be safe and efficient as a treatment option for pediatric AKI. A possible association of low albumin level with poor prognosis was also indicated.
