Pakarinen O, Neuvonen P, Lainiala O, et al. - Researchers herein investigated patients operated on with either CPT or Exeter stem for the prevalence of revision for periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF). Further, they compared the risk for revision between stems. They assessed primary total hip arthroplasties (THA) either conducted in 2012-2015 with Exeter stem (n = 1,443) or in 2017-2018 with CPT stem (n = 1,322). The most common reason for revision in the study population at 2 years was PFF. Findings revealed a considerable number of PFF revisions with taper-slip stems, especially with CPT stems, which is a matter of concern. Based on findings, they emphasize considering alternative cemented stems in patients at high risk for PFF.
