Peripheral monocyte counts predict the clinical outcome for patients with colorectal cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Oct 09, 2019
Wen S, Chen N, Peng J, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers comprehensively estimated if the peripheral absolute monocyte count (AMC) influences the clinical outcome of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. To identify studies reporting the prognostic value of AMC in CRC patients, a comprehensive literature search was performed in PubMed, Web of Science and EMBASE last updated to December 23, 2018. According to pooled analyses, CRC patients with elevated AMC were significantly linked to worse overall survival, disease-free survival, cancer-specific survival and progression-free survival. Furthermore, in patients with CRC, subgroup analyses provided more information and exhibited the prognostic effect of elevated preoperative AMC. In patients with CRC, elevated AMC seems to be served as an unfavorable and robust predicative indicator. No significant heterogeneity and publication bias was found.
