Perioperative outcome of single stage posterior spinal fusion for severe adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) (Cobb angle ≥90°): The role of a dual attending surgeon strategy

Spine Mar 08, 2019

Kwan MK, et al. - Authors estimated the perioperative consequence of dual attending surgeon policy for critical adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) cases with Cobb angle more than or equal to 90° among 85 cases of mean age 16.2 ± 5.2 years. They measured the average Cobb angle of 93.9 ± 3.0° in Group 1 and 114.2 ± 10.2° in Group 2, with Lenke 2 curves in most of the cases in both the groups. They recorded 1699.5 ± 939.3 mL of average blood loss with an average operative time of 198.5 ± 47.5 minutes. They reported 71.6 ± 22.5 hours, the average length of stay after surgery and 17.6% of allogeneic blood transfusion rate. They noticed 5 complications: one intraoperative seizure, one massive blood loss, one intraoperative loss of somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP) signal, and two superficial wound breakdown.
