Periodontitis as a risk indicator and predictor of poor outcome for lacunar infarct
Journal of Clinical Periodontology Feb 20, 2019
Leira Y, et al. - During full-mouth periodontal examination in 120 cases and 157 healthy controls, authors estimated the relationship between periodontitis (PD) and lacunar infarct (LI) and also assessed if PD could be a predictor of poor functional prognosis in subjects with LI. They calculated periodontal inflammation and disease activity, namely the periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) for all candidates. They observed an independent association of PD with the presence of LI. They noticed poor outcome in 31 cases with LI. They suggested PISA value ≥727 mm2, an independent predictor of poor prognosis.
