Periodontal ligament-derived mesenchymal stem cells modulate neutrophil responses via paracrine mechanisms
Journal of Periodontology Jul 25, 2019
Misawa MYO, et al. - This study was undertaken to determine if periodontal ligament-derived mesenchymal stem cells (PDLSCs) can modulate neutrophil responses through paracrine mechanisms. For this investigation, CD105-enriched PDLSCs have been seeded for 24 h and challenged with Porphyromonas gingivalis total protein extract (PgPE) (0 or 2 ug/mL) for 3 h. According to findings, PgPE treatment induced higher secretion of PDLSCs inflammatory markers and chemokines, including RANTES, eotaxin, interferon (IFN)-γ- inducible protein 10, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, IFN-γ, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8 and IL-1ra. These results indicate that PDLSCs play a significant role in recognizing P. gingivalis, paracrine recruitment and activating antimicrobial processes in innate immune cells without interfering with cytokine responses.
