Periodontal disease severity is associated with micronutrient intake

Australian Dental Journal Apr 30, 2018

Luo PP, et al. - Authors evaluated whether specific micronutrients were related to periodontal disease using data from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2011 to 2014. They included the participants who were aged 30 years or more and received complete periodontal examinations. Findings suggested a significant association of vitamin A, B1, C and E, iron, folate and phosphorus with the severity of periodontal disease. In order to reduce the severity of periodontal disease, the above micronutrients could be increased in the diet or taken as dietary supplements.
