Periodontal condition in relation to the adherence to nutrient recommendations in daily smokers
Journal of Clinical Periodontology Apr 26, 2018
Jauhiainen LM, et al. - Authors evaluated if a healthy diet based on nutrient recommendations was related to a periodontal condition in smokers. They analyzed daily smokers from the cross-sectional Health 2000 Survey (BRIF 8901) in Finland in 2 age groups (30–49 and 50–79 years, n = 704 and 267) and according to the level of oral hygiene. Results demonstrated that a healthy diet was not associated with periodontal condition in a representative sample of Finnish adults who smoke. An association of a healthy diet with a better periodontal condition was seen in a younger age group with good oral hygiene.
