Periodontal condition and levels of bacteria associated with periodontitis in individuals with bipolar affective disorders: A case-control study
Journal of Periodontal Research Dec 09, 2018
Cunha FA, et al. - Experts evaluated the epidemiological and microbiological aspects of the potential relationship between bipolar affective disorder (BAPD) and periodontitis. All individuals included in this study underwent a complete full-mouth periodontal examination and microbiological sampling. Findings suggested an asociation of BAPD with increased risk for periodontitis. higher levels of A. actinomycetemcomitans and P. gingivalis were seen in the individuals with BPAD, thereby suggesting that periodontitis could be a co-morbidity frequently found in individuals with BAPD.
