Performance of a pre‐procedural Mehran score to predict acute kidney injury after percutaneous coronary intervention
Nephrology Aug 22, 2020
Blanco A, Rahim F, Nguyen M, et al. - Given that the use of contrast volume as part of the Mehran score calculation [this score was introduced to detect patients at risk for acute kidney injury (AKI) post-cardiac catheterization or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)] limits its application before the procedure, and therefore, researchers tested a modified Mehran score that utilizes only preprocedural data by excluding contrast volume. They utilized data from 1,507 patients who underwent PCI between July 2015 and December 2017. They found no difference in the four‐category net discrimination index between the two scores, although a small loss in discrimination was evident. Experts concluded the usefulness of pre‐procedural modified Mehran score as a clinical predictor of AKI risk in patients receiving PCI.
