Percutaneous coronary intervention outcomes in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic sclerosis
Rheumatology Feb 04, 2020
Martinez SC, Mohamed M, Potts J, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate the prevalence and outcomes of AIRD individuals undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) from a national perspective. Experts included all PCI-related hospitalizations record in the US National Inpatient Sample between 2004 and 2014, categorizing into four groups: no AIRD, RA, SLE, and SSc. They show increased rates of all adverse clinical outcomes following PCI in people with SSc and increased bleeding in SLE, in a nationwide cohort of US hospitalizations. No difference was found in complications between the SLE and RA groups and those without AIRD, except higher odds of bleeding in SLE individuals and decreased odds of all-cause mortality in RA individuals. In addition, the management of such individuals should involve a multiteam plan with rheumatologists.
