Patient outcomes after total knee arthroplasty in patients older than 80 years
Journal of Arthroplasty Jul 25, 2018
Austin DC, et al. - Researchers compared the functional improvement, length of stay (LOS), and facility discharge rates following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) between the cohort of patients above age 80 and patients less than 80 years of age. A similar adjusted functional improvement after TKA was demonstrated by the patients older than 80 years vs younger patients. Nonetheless, substantially more resources were required by the older patients as they remained in the hospital longer and were discharged to rehabilitation more often.
