Overexpression of epidermal growth factor receptor and its downstream effector, focal adhesion kinase, correlates with papillary thyroid carcinoma progression
International Journal of Experimental Pathology Apr 26, 2018
Selemetjev S, et al. - The purpose of this study was to inspect the connection between epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and focal adhesion kinase (FAK) expression and their possible link with the clinical phenotype of patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). A scrutiny was conducted of the expression profiles of EGFR and FAK in PTC tissue samples through immunohistochemistry and Western blotting. Yielded results demonstrated that high levels of EGFR and its downstream effector, FAK, in association with lymphatic spread and tumour infiltration hinted towards their involvement in PTC progression. Furthermore, both molecules could speculate its aggressive behaviour. Data displayed that FAK could serve as a potential target for anticancer therapy in patients with advanced thyroid cancer.
