Overestimation of glomerular filtration rate calculated from creatinine as compared with cystatin C in patients with type 2 diabetes receiving sodium-glucose cotransportor 2 inhibitors
Diabetic Medicine Jul 30, 2021
Choosongsang P, et al. - A cross-sectional study was conducted to compare creatinine-based estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFRcr) and cystatin C-based estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFRcys) between patients with type 2 diabetes receiving and not receiving sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors. Researchers selected plasma specimens from 90 patients with type 2 diabetes who had been receiving SGLT2 inhibitors for at least 24 weeks (SGLT2 inhibitors group). A discrepancy between eGFRcr and eGFRcys was observed in patients with type 2 diabetes receiving SGLT2 inhibitors when compared with those not receiving SGLT2 inhibitors.
