Outcomes of treatment with sirolimus for non-infectious uveitis: A meta-analysis and systematic review
Clinical Ophthalmology Apr 26, 2019
Cabahug VLO, et al. - Researchers evaluated data to investigate the outcomes of treatment with sirolimus for non-infectious uveitis (NIU). During a 6-month follow-up, the pooled proportions of inflammation control (VH improvement) were 38% whereas it was 49.97% during a 6- to 12-month follow-up with the latter exhibiting a significantly higher response rate. They noticed no significant difference in best-corrected visual acuity improvement during a 6-month follow-up vs during a 6- to 12-month follow-up (62.2% vs 56.86%). They found sirolimus a suitable treatment alternative to control the inflammatory activity, in improving visual acuity, and sparing corticosteroids use with insignificant adverse events for NIU.
