Outcomes of severe uveitic glaucoma treated with Baerveldt implant: Can blindness be prevented?
Acta Ophthalmologica Sep 21, 2017
Tan AN, et al. - The target of this trial was to inspect the long-term outcomes on efficacy and safety of severe uveitic glaucoma treated with a Baerveldt glaucoma implant (BGI). It was found to be effective and safe for patients with refractive secondary glaucoma due to uveitis. In maximum patients, visual acuity (VA) remained stable and a low and stable intraocular pressure (IOP) was maintained over time with an acceptable number of complications. Hence, close monitoring was recommended for patients with viral uveitis and glaucoma, for the possible occurrence of IOP peaks during episodes of a flare-up of uveitis. In contrast, at the other end of the spectrum, patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) possibly exhibited greater tendency to hypotony maculopathy.
