Tibbo ME, et al. - The outcome of total joint arthroplasty (TKA) in the setting of Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) were compared to those noted among patients undergoing TKA for osteoarthritis (OA). Researchers matched 16 patients (20 knees) with EDS who underwent a TKA between 2001 and 2016, 1:2 (n = 40) on age, sex, body mass index (BMI), and surgical date to patients undergoing TKA for osteoarthritis (OA). Outcomes suggest that patients with EDS are not at increased risk of revision or reoperation following TKA in the intermediate term despite a higher tendency to require a constrained component.
