Outcomes of limbal stem cell transplant: A meta-analysis
JAMA Ophthalmology Jun 27, 2020
Le Q, Chauhan T, Yung M, et al. - Researchers investigated the outcomes of different limbal stem cell transplant (LSCT) procedures [direct autologous limbal transplant (AULT), direct allogenic limbal transplant (ALLT), cultivated autologous limbal stem cells transplant (cAULT), and cultivated allogenic limbal stem cells transplant (cALLT)] via performing a meta-analysis of 40 studies (2,202 eyes). Outcomes revealed a significantly higher rate of restoration of the ocular surface and lower rate of complications in correlation with autologous LSCT vs allogeneic LSCT. However, the studies differed greatly concerning the criteria of LSCD grading and other efficacy outcome measures.
