Outcomes of lensectomy and risk factors for failure in spherophakic eyes with secondary glaucoma
British Journal of Ophthalmology Jan 01, 2018
Rao DP, et al. - Lensectomy was contemplated as a treatment option, herein, for spherophakic eyes with subluxated or dislocated crystalline lenses and secondary glaucoma. In nearly half of all eyes with spherophakia and secondary glaucoma, an effectively controlled intraocular pressure (IOP) was reported as the consequence of lensectomy; 40% eyes needed antiglaucoma medication and only 7.7% eyes needed glaucoma surgery for IOP control. The factors that conferred risk for poor glaucoma control post-lensectomy included younger age, higher IOP and larger cup to disc ratio at presentation.
