Outcomes of Acinetobacter peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis patients: A multicenter registry analysis

Peritoneal Dialysis International Jul 14, 2018

Htay H, et al. - In a large, national cohort of peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients, researchers assessed the outcomes of Acinetobacter peritonitis. They used Australia and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant Registry (ANZDATA) data and take account of all episodes of peritonitis in Australia from January 2004 to December 2014. They used multivariable logistic regression to compare peritonitis cure (primary outcome) and catheter removal, hemodialysis transfer, recurrent/relapsing peritonitis, peritonitis-related hospitalization, and death (secondary outcomes). They found that relative to most other forms of organism-specific peritonitis, the cases of peritonitis caused by Acinetobacter had favorable outcomes. They also observed that in Acinetobacter peritonitis, comparable outcomes were achieved with commonly used antibiotics covering gram-negative bacteria.
