Outcomes following surgical management of femoral neck fractures in elderly dialysis-dependent patients
Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery Feb 15, 2018
Puvanesarajah V, et al. - In the dialysis-dependent elderly, the morbidity and mortality after operative fixation of femoral neck fractures were evaluated by the authors. Dialysis dependence was a significant risk factor for major post-surgical morbidity and mortality following operative treatment of femoral neck fractures in this population, regardless of the surgery performed. In the internal fixation group, data did not reveal an increased mechanical failure. Comprehension of the increased risk associated with caring for this population was required while considering surgical intervention and for counseling patients.
