Outcomes associated with pacemaker implantation following transcatheter aortic valve replacement: A nationwide cohort study
Heart Rhythm Jun 22, 2021
Clementy N, Bisson A, Bodin A, et al. - Researchers used an administrative hospital-discharge database to assess results associated with permanent pacemaker implantation (PPM) following a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure in a large nationwide level population. There were 520,662 patients hospitalized for aortic stenosis, of which 49,201 underwent TAVR. Overall 29,422 patients received a follow-up ≥6 months (median 1.7 years), 22% already had PPM at baseline and 22% had PPM within the first 30 days after TAVR. Findings showed an independent association of both PPM at baseline and within 30 days post-TAVR with a higher mortality as well as heart failure hospitalization during follow-up.
