Baker BH, et al. - Individuals who underwent vasectomies prospectively consented in order to optimize opioid pain medication use following vasectomy. Seventy-six cases completed the study. In all, 88.3% rated best pain treatment satisfaction with score > = 4 (scale 1-5). In the end, nine people reported requiring more pain medication. Using Pearson correlation, younger age was significantly associated with the number of pills used. In terms of disposal, 20 people disposed of extra medication, 14 used all medication, and 50.6% did not dispose of medication. Fifty individuals knew the proper disposal technique. In conclusion, opioid medication use following vasectomy is changeable though associated with age. Thus, clinicians should weigh the demand vs possible abuse to discover the number of tablets they are comfortable prescribing. Moreover, counseling and documentation on proper use and disposal of opioid medication are robustly supported.
