Optical coherence tomography angiography compared with multimodal imaging for diagnosing neovascular central serous chorioretinopathy

American Journal of Ophthalmology Jun 11, 2021

Ng DSC, Ho M, Chen LJ, et al. - Researchers conducted this prospective cross-sectional study to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) compared with multimodal imaging for choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) eyes and to determine the features that predicted CNV. Consecutive CSC patients were selected from the retina clinic. According to the reference standard, CNV was detected in 69 eyes in 64 out of 277 CSC patients. There is a discrepancy between OCTA and multimodal imaging in diagnosing CNV in CSC. The limitations of OCTA interpretation, such as small extrafoveal lesions and retinal pigment epithelial alterations, were demonstrated in this study. It is recommended to interpret OCTA in conjunction with dye angiography and structural OCT.
