One- to 10-year Status Epilepticus Mortality (SEM) score after 30 days of hospital discharge: Development and validation using competing risks analysis
BMC Neurology Dec 17, 2019
Sirikarn P, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study done using status epilepticus (SE, an emergency neurological disorder that influences patients’ quality of life and is related to high mortality risk) patient data obtained from Thailand’s Universal Coverage Scheme database between the fiscal years of 2005 and 2015 and followed-up to 2016, experts intended to generate and authenticate a simple risk score for long-term mortality in SE individuals. A total of 20,792 SE people were randomized into the development group (n = 13,910) and in the validation group (n = 6,882). Age, male, brain tumor, stroke, cancer, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, pneumonia, and UTI were nine predictors to be included in the final model, as ascertained by a sub-distribution hazard model. The possible total score varied from zero to 64 and the cumulative incidence function was utilized to discover the likelihood of mortality related to each total score within the first 10 years following the primary admission. Thus, for prognosticating 10-year mortality in people SE, a nine-factor risk score was made.
