International Journal of Dental Hygiene Jun 14, 2019
Schmidt JC, et al. - In patients seeking treatment at the University of Basel, Switzerland, researchers studied the connection between oral piercings and periodontal health or inflammation. Between November 2016 and January 2017, records of patients from the pool of patients at the Department of Periodontology, Endodontology and Cardiology were consecutively screened. Participants in the study were 18 patients with a tongue and/or a lip piercing. Findings suggested that piercing of the tongue may have a negative effect on periodontal conditions of the teeth close to the piercing.
