Omeprazole use and risk of chronic kidney disease evolution
PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases Mar 13, 2020
Guedes JVM, Aquino JA, Castro TLB, et al. - Researchers here examined if and how the continuous use of omeprazole is associated with the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in adult and elderly individuals. In this retrospective cohort study, patients followed up at a nephrology clinic in Brazil, in 2016 and 2017 were assessed. The polyclinic was visited by a total of 199 CKD patients; of these, 42.7% reported omeprazole use. Observations suggest the presence of an association between omeprazole use and progression of CKD stage; a higher risk of disease evolution was observed among omeprazole users.
