Older adults with cancer: A randomized controlled trial of occupational and physical therapy
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society May 03, 2019
Pergolotti M, et al. - In this trial, researchers investigated how functional outcomes in older adults with cancer (median age: 74 years; 91% white) may be influenced by occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT). This study included older adults who received a diagnosis of cancer recently or had a recurrence of cancer within 5 years and had at least one functional limitation detected by a geriatric evaluation. The investigators randomized participants to OT/PT or usual care groups. The intervention group demonstrated significantly improved possibilities for Activity Scale scores. Findings were suggestive of a possible positive impact of OT/PT on activity expectations and self-efficacy.
