Ocular complications of soft tissue filler injections: A review of literature
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Nov 14, 2019
Lee W, et al. - Given that soft tissue filler was commonly used for facial contouring, however, incorrect use can lead to severe ocular complications, researchers examined visual compromise secondary to soft tissue filler injection and reviewed the related vascular anatomy, pathophysiology, and prevention of ocular complications of soft tissue filler injections. In total, 50 reports of filler-induced visual compromise have been identified. According to this literature review, the most common blindness-related injection site in a previous report was glabella, but the nose was the most common blindness-related site currently due to filler injections. Extreme caution is needed to avoid the branches of the internal carotid artery while performing nasal augmentation or glabellar wrinkle correction using soft tissue fillers.
