Obesity and laboratory aspirin resistance in high-risk pregnant women treated with low-dose aspirin
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Feb 22, 2019
Finneran MM, et al. - Researchers investigated whether obesity is associated with platelet-derived thromboxane inhibition in high-risk women who received low-dose aspirin (LDA) for preeclampsia (PE) prevention. Outcomes of this secondary analysis of a prospective multi-centered study investigating the effect of LDA (60-mg) administration in women at high risk for PE suggest that lower rates of complete inhibition of TXB2 (an indirect measure of thromboxane A2) were achieved among high-risk obese women receiving LDA for the prevention of preeclampsia. Data thereby support that this population requires an increase in aspirin dosing or frequency.
