Normal-tension glaucoma is associated with cognitive impairment
British Journal of Ophthalmology Apr 04, 2021
Mullany S, Xiao L, Qassim A, et al. - Using cognitive screening within an Australiasian Glaucoma Disease Registry, researchers ascertained if cognitive impairment is more strongly correlated with normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) than high tension glaucoma (HTG). The sample consisted of 290 age-matched and sex-matched NTG candidates and HTG controls aged ≥ 65 randomly sampled from the Australian and New Zealand Registry of Advanced Glaucoma. This research found a link between NTG status and poor cognition, lending credence to the hypothesis that there is a disease association and shared pathoaetiological features between NTG and dementia.
