New classification for the reporting of complications in retinal detachment surgical trials
JAMA Ophthalmology Jun 29, 2021
Xu ZY, Azuara-Blanco A, Kadonosono K, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for developing a new consensus-based classification to quantify severity of complications of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) surgery. Using the Delphi consensus method, a consensus on the grading of complications of RRD surgery was pursued. The survey was carried out in 17 countries in mainland Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, Asia, South Africa, and Australia. The Delphi survey was invited to 70 vitreoretinal surgeons, with 45 agreeing to participate. To quantify harm and improve reporting of RRD surgery complications, the authors propose a new classification for quantifying the severity of surgical complications based on an international consensus of vitreoretinal surgeons.
