Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio as hematologic indices of inflammatory response in ceramic workers’ silicosis
The Clinical Respiratory Journal Jan 27, 2019
Karataş M, et al. - In this retrospective analysis of 573 patients with silicosis and 222 ceramic workers without silicosis (controls), researchers focused on the link between neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and silicosis. They analyzed demographic and laboratory data. The radiographic ILO classification of silicosis patients included category 1 (71.5%), category 2 (19.2%), category 3 (7.5%). Relative to control group, a remarkably higher NLR and PLR were detected in category 2 and 3. In all silicosis patients and also in patients with subcategories, significantly lower FEV1, FEV1%, FVC, FVC % and PEF were detected. Overall, significant but poor correlations of NLR and PLR, with pulmonary functions and severity of silicosis were observed, especially in late radiographic profusion categories.
