Need for long‐term follow‐up in sinonasal inverted papilloma: A single‐institution experience
Head & Neck Oct 30, 2020
Binz GHA, Soyka MB, Holzmann D, et al. - Researchers analyzed data on patients with treatment-naïve sinonasal inverted papillomas (SNIPs) to better understand the long-term outcome measures after primary surgery with a particular focus on recurrence rates (RRs), the risk of malignant transformation, the role of frontal sinus involvement and the distinction between true recurrence and persistence. Between 1999 and 2019, patients with consecutive, treatment‐naïve SNIPs at a tertiary referral center were reviewed. Overall, the RR of treatment-naïve SNIPs is comparably poor, but due to late recurrences, long-term follow-up is mandatory. Secondary frontal sinus involvement has been described as a risk factor for recurrence. No SNIPs primarily originating from frontal sinus have been observed.
