Muscle expression of Type I and Type II interferons is increased in juvenile dermatomyositis and related to clinical and histological features
Arthritis & Rheumatology Dec 20, 2018
Moneta GM, et al. - Authors assessed the expression of type I interferon (IFNα/β)- and type II IFN (IFNγ)-inducible genes in muscle biopsies of juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) patients. They also correlated their expression levels with histological and clinical features. They evaluated the expression levels of IFN-inducible genes and pro-inflammatory cytokines by quantitative PCR in muscle biopsies of JDM patients, Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients and healthy controls. The pathogenic role in JDM for both type I and type II IFNs was further supported by the increased expression of IFN-inducible genes in muscle of JDM patients and their association with histological and clinical features.
